Let's be honest, the jewellery industry hasn't always had the shiniest reputation. It’s an industry that has, historically, taken a lot from the earth and sometimes from the people who work it. We knew from the very beginning that we had to be different. For us, sustainability and ethics aren't just trendy words to be slapped on a marketing campaign; they are the fundamental principles that guide every decision we make. It’s not a separate department or a box-ticking exercise. It’s woven into the very fabric of our workshop. We believe that creating beautiful things should not come at an ugly cost to the planet or its people. We believe that a business can be a force for good. It’s a journey, not a destination, and we are always learning and striving to do better. But we want to share our commitments with you, openly and honestly.
The single biggest decision we made for sustainability was to use 100% recycled precious metals. Why? Because it just makes sense. Precious metals are, well, precious. They can be melted down and reformed an infinite number of times without ever losing their quality. The silver in your ring is the same silver that was around when the dinosaurs roamed. So why on earth would we need to dig up more? Traditional mining is an incredibly intensive process. It uses vast amounts of energy and water, displaces ecosystems, and can release harmful chemicals into the environment. By using recycled gold and silver, we completely sidestep this. We are taking a resource that is already in circulation – old jewellery, industrial materials, even dental fillings – and giving it a new lease of life. We are participating in a circular economy, where waste is eliminated, and resources are kept in use. It dramatically reduces our carbon footprint and our demand on the planet's finite resources. It also adds a beautiful, unseen layer of history to every piece we create. We think that’s a win-win.
Our commitment to ethics starts right here at home, within the four walls of our workshop. We’re a small team, a family of artisans, and the wellbeing of every single member is paramount. This means more than just complying with health and safety regulations (though we do that with bells on, of course). It means creating an environment that is safe, supportive, and fair. It means paying a proper living wage that reflects the incredible skill and dedication our craftspeople bring to the bench every day. It means fostering a culture of respect, where everyone has a voice and feels valued. We invest in the best safety equipment, from top-of-the-line ventilation systems to protect us from dust and fumes, to the most comfortable, ergonomic chairs to support our backs during long hours of focused work. We believe that happy, healthy, and respected artisans create the best work. The love and care we have for our team is the same love and care that gets poured into your jewellery. It’s as simple as that.
What’s the point of creating a sustainable piece of jewellery if it arrives in a mountain of single-use plastic? We’ve put a huge amount of thought into our packaging, aiming for that tricky balance between a beautiful unboxing experience and a minimal environmental footprint. Every element has been chosen with care. Our beautiful gift boxes are not just pretty faces; they are designed to be keepers, little homes for your jewellery for years to come. They are made from recycled materials and are fully recyclable themselves (though we hope you’ll never want to part with them!). We’ve ditched the foam inserts you often find in jewellery boxes, opting instead for soft, reusable pouches made from natural fibres. All our postal packaging is, of course, 100% recyclable and made from recycled content where possible. We’re constantly looking for new, innovative materials and ways to reduce our waste even further. It’s an ongoing process, but one we are deeply committed to. Your AllUniqueness experience should feel good from the moment you land on our website to the moment you open your box, and long into the future.
We’re not perfect. No one is. The world of sustainability is complex and ever-evolving. But we promise that we will always be honest. We will always be transparent about our practices. And we will always, always be striving to do better. We are constantly researching new materials, new techniques, and new ways of working that can lessen our impact and increase our positive contribution. We see it as our responsibility not just to create beautiful jewellery, but to do so in a way that respects the planet and all the people we share it with. It’s a commitment that is cast into the very heart of our brand.
