The Bespoke Jewellery Design Process & How It Works

Let's Make Something That's Uniquely Yours

There is something truly special about wearing a piece of jewellery that was made just for you. Not picked from a catalogue, but born from a conversation, a memory, or a flash of inspiration. It’s a piece that carries your story in its very DNA. Our bespoke service is where we get to be a part of that magic. It’s the ultimate collaboration between you and our workshop. It’s a chance to create a future heirloom, a one-of-a-kind piece that nobody else in the world will have. The thought of commissioning a bespoke piece can feel a bit daunting, but we promise it’s a fun, exciting, and surprisingly straightforward adventure. We’re here to guide you every step of the way. So, how does it work? Let’s walk through the journey together.

Step 1: The Conversation (and a Cup of Tea)

Every bespoke journey starts with a simple chat. This is the most important part of the whole process. It’s where we get to know you and, more importantly, the story behind the piece you want to create. You don’t need to come to us with a perfectly polished design. Far from it. You might have a vague idea, a collection of images you like, a specific gemstone you love, or simply a feeling you want to capture. Is it a celebration of a milestone? A tribute to a loved one? A secret message you want to embed in the design? We’ll sit down, either in person or virtually, with a cup of tea (or something stronger!) and just talk. We’ll ask lots of questions. We’ll listen. We’ll get to the heart of what this piece means to you. This initial conversation is all about gathering the ingredients for the design. There are no silly ideas. The more you can tell us about the 'why', the better the final piece will be.

Step 2: The Drawing Board (Digital and Analogue)

Once we have a clear understanding of your vision, our designers get to work. This is where your story starts to take on a physical form. We’ll begin with some rough hand-drawn sketches, exploring different concepts and layouts. It’s a very organic, creative process of getting ideas down on paper. Once we’ve narrowed down a direction that you’re excited about, we move to the digital drawing board. Using our Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, we will create a detailed, three-dimensional model of your design. This is a fantastic part of the process because it allows you to see your piece from every angle before it’s even made. We can show you exactly how it will look, make tiny adjustments to the proportions, and see how different finishes might appear. We’ll create a series of high-quality images, or ‘renders’, for you to review. We’ll go back and forth as much as needed at this stage, tweaking and refining the design until you look at the screen and say, "Yes, that’s it. That’s the one."

Step 3: Sourcing the Perfect Stone (The Treasure Hunt)

If your bespoke piece includes a gemstone, this is the point where we go on a treasure hunt. Based on our conversations, we’ll know the type, shape, size, and colour of the stone you’re dreaming of. But we don’t just pick the first one we find. We’ll reach out to our network of trusted, ethical suppliers and ask them to send us a curated selection of stones that fit your criteria. We’ll then examine them in the workshop, looking not just for quality, but for character. Does it have a particularly beautiful fire? A unique inclusion that adds to its charm? A depth of colour that takes your breath away? We’ll take photos and videos for you, showing you how the stones look in different lights. You get to be a part of the selection process, choosing the exact stone that speaks to you. It’s a wonderfully personal part of the journey, picking the glittering heart of your future heirloom.

Step 4: The Workshop Comes Alive (The Making)

Once the design is approved and the stones are chosen, it’s time for the real magic to begin. Your design is handed over to our team of master artisans, and the workshop comes to life. Your piece will be created from scratch, entirely by hand, using the blueprint we created together. The recycled gold or silver will be carefully measured, cut, and shaped. If it’s a cast piece, the 3D model will be printed in wax and taken through the ancient lost-wax casting process. Our jewellers will then saw, file, solder, and sand your piece into existence. Every curve is perfected, every join is made seamless. If there’s a stone, it will be meticulously set by our stone-setter. If there’s engraving, our engraver will carefully carve your message into the metal. This is the stage where all the planning and conversation becomes a tangible reality. It’s a process of intense focus and skill, and it’s undertaken with a huge amount of pride and care. We’ll often send you little photo updates from the bench during this stage, so you can see your piece coming to life.

Step 5: The Grand Reveal (It's Yours!)

This is the best bit. After a final, painstaking polish and a thorough quality check where every detail is scrutinised, your piece is finished. It’s ready. We’ll let you know the moment it’s complete, and arrange for the grand reveal. Seeing someone’s face when they see their bespoke piece for the first time is the reason we do what we do. It’s the moment a story becomes a treasure. It’s the culmination of a wonderful, collaborative journey. Your idea, your story, brought to life by our hands. There’s nothing quite like it.
